Zuiryū-ji Temple (Takaoka City)

The Zuiryū-ji Temple, a National Treasure, was built over a period of some 20 years by Maeda Toshitsune, the third daimyo of the Kaga Domain, in commemoration of his older brother Toshinaga, the second daimyo of Kaga. The temple is the only National Treasure in Toyama prefecture. The typical Zen placement of the temple’s buildings makes for a majestic and powerful panorama.

Kaiwomaru Park(Imizu City)

The majestic “Kaiwomaru” barque is nicknamed the “Dame of the Seas”. Because of the grandiose view from this park of the four-masted Kaiwomaru on the backdrop of the cable-stayed Shinminato Bridge – the largest bridge on the western coast of Japan – and the Tateyama Mountain Range, Kaiwomaru Park is a certified “Holy Place for Lovers”. The view at night when the Kaiwomaru and Shinminato Bridge are lit up is truly magical.

Shinminato Kittokito Market(Imizu City)

This fisherman’s wharf is famous for its abundance of fresh seafood from the Shinminato Fishing Port. Here you can find such sea delicacies as Japanese glass shrimp – “the gems of Toyama Bay” – but also the large Chionoecetes japonicus crab and firefly squid, in addition to many other gifts and souvenirs.

Tonami Tulip Gallery (Tonami City)

This is the only place in the world where tulips are in bloom all year round. Visitors will be drawn into the magical world of tulips as they learn the secrets and the history of this flower and are surrounded 360˚ by tulips in the Palace. We also recommend spending a moment of relaxation in the café or boutique.

Shogawa Gorge Cruise (Tonami City)

A boat ride on this lake where the landscape changes along with the seasons will relax your mind. The fresh green of spring, the changing leaves in autumn and winter landscapes are particularly beautiful and are certain to soothe body and soul.

Gokayama Gassho-zukuri Villages (Ainokura and Suganuma) (Nanto City)

These two villages with their gassho-zukuri style buildings were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List along with Shirakawa-go in December 1995. There are currently 23 gassho-zukuri buildings in Ainokura and 9 in Suganuma, the oldest of which is said to have been built 400 years ago.

It takes around 35 minutes from the Historic Villages of Gokoyama (in Suganuma) to the Historic Villages of Shirakawa-go on the World Heritage Bus.
