Road Station TAIRA Gokayama Washi-no-Sato

Road Station TAIRA is next to Gokayama Washi-no-Sato, which includes information on the history of washi (traditional Japanese paper) production in Gokayama, a paper-making workshop, and examples of famous washi from across Japan. In the Thatched Roof Washi Workshop, visitors can try their hand at Gokayama washi papermaking, postcard making, and more. The facility is also the perfect rest stop for people driving through the area with its information center, local goods for sale, and dining area where visitors can taste some local Gokayama dishes.

Pick up

Papermaking workshops can be taken by just one individual or in a group, and same-day sign-ups are available. Please feel free to come participate if interested. Try your hand at some Gokayama washi papermaking and make your very own unique piece of art.

・Customers who visit in groups may be required to wait because we need to prepare for workshops, so we ask that you please call in advance.
・Workshop capacities are meant to give a general idea, so depending on the amount of time available, we can increase the number of possible participants.
