Shirakawa-go Gassho-zukuri Village (Shirakawa Village)

Old Township (Takayama City)
120minThree streets in the center of the castle town of Takayama which developed as the commercial district are referred to as the “Old Township”. Water flows in pipes under the eaves of the external-latticed buildings, and balls made of Japanese cedar leaves hang as signs in front of sake breweries. The streets are lined with the imposing front entrances of town houses and the noren of old establishments. The streets bustle with tourists visiting traditional crafts shops, souvenir stores and cafés.

Seto-gawa and white-walled storehouse district (Hida City)
120minNicknamed “the backroom of Takayama”, Hida-Furukawa is another district of Hida known for the old buildings along the streets. The area is perfect for a stroll along the streets lined by the neat, gracious buildings. The 1,000-some carp swimming in the Seto-gawa stream that runs among the white-walled storehouses (shirakabe dozo) and the stone walls of the temples are certain to charm you. This very popular area is what has given Hida-Furukawa its name as a castle town rich in emotions.

Gero Onsen (Gero City)
Gero Onsen are known as one of the “Three Most Famous onsen of Japan”, along with Kusatsu in Gunma Prefecture and Arima in Hyogo Prefecture. The simple alkaline spring water softens keratin and leaves the skin feeling silky, hence the nickname “the onsen for Beauties”.

【Remarks】
It takes around 1 hour and 30 minutes from Gero Station to Nagoya Station on the limited express train.
It takes around 35 minutes from the Historic Villages of Gokayama (in Suganuma) to the Historic Villages of Shirakawa-go on the World Heritage Bus.
