Takayama Festival
““The Takayama Festival” refers to both The Takayama Spring Festival (Sanno Matsuri),held on April 14th and 15th, and the Takayama Autumn Festival (Hachiman Matsuri) held on October 9 and 10. These festivals are said to have originated in the second half of the 16th century or the 17th century. The Takayama Festival is considered one of Japan’s three finest float festivals and one of Japan’s three most beautiful festivals, on par with Kyoto’s Gion Festival and Chichibu’s Night Festival, and the festival procession is registered as a nationally important intangible folk cultural property, while the yatai floats are a nationally important intangible folk cultural property. There are only just a little examples cultural properties nationwide, including Takayama Festivals that are registered as both.”
