Kinkotsu Footpath

The term kinkotsu (literally, “sinew & bones”) is used to refer to the backstreets of Hida-Kanayama. These narrow, intertwined backstreets are said to resemble the sinews and bones of the human body. Nostalgic scenery remains around the Kanayama-juku rest stop on the Hida Kaido road, which has flourished as a post town since the Edo period. Immerse yourself in the retro feeling—it’s like being on a movie set—and enjoy a rustic dining experience at a Japanese confectionery shop or tofu shop. You can also sample Japanese sake at the sake brewery, which has been in operation since the Edo period.

Pick up

It’s enjoyable even without a guide, but taking a guide along will allow you to enjoy it even more. The guide fee is 2000 yen per group (up to 6 people). Groups of 7 or more incur a 300 yen charge per extra person.

Note

At present, there is only one guide who can speak English.
